IPL POLAMAR MEDILUX ACNE TREATMENT

Acne is caused by Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes), bacteria that live on the skin and in the oil glands. These bacteria along with excessive oil gland secretions can lead to acne breakouts. Hormones play an important part in the acne story. Drug resistant acne is not uncommon and can be devastating. New light based devices have been developed to treat all types of acne from mild forms to the most severe. They work by different mechanisms but the most successful are those that affect bacterial growth and also reduce oil gland function.

How does IPL work to treat acne?
The Palomar LuxV dual band handpiece employs a broad spectrum of light to attack acne on two fronts:

1. The LuxV’s short wavelength (400-700 nm) is ideal for absorption by porphyrins; this destroys p. acnes bacteria for a quick clearance of current acne breakouts
2. The longer wavelength (870-1200 nm) penetrates deeper into the hyperactive sebaceous glands and slows down their metabolism to prevent future acne from forming.

What can I expect with the treatment?
The procedure lasts about ten minutes and although several visits may be needed, the treatment boasts a nearly perfect record and most patients feel only a mild snapping sensation. The safety and patient comfort is greatly increased with the use of the “Zimmer” cooling the skin as it is treated.
